With late night studying, exams, papers, and a busy scheduled packed
with class and organizations, you may barely have time to eat, much
less plan healthy eating in advance. It's safe to say that the college
years are spent enjoying fast food: does pizza after a study group and
sugary lattes for your morning dose coffee sound familiar? Even if
you chow down on salads for lunch and dutifully eat steamed vegetables
for dinner, college students often miss out on one essential food: fruit.
We all know that adding fruits and vegetables to our diet is necessary
for good health, but as a college student, I am well aware of how
difficult this can be. However, you can easily opt to have a delicious
fruit smoothie for breakfast or a snack and get a serving or two of
fruit at the same time. Improve your diet by adding fruits and
vegetables with these tasty smoothies:
- Berry-licious smoothie: For those who eat a diet that's
severely lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables, I recommend starting
with a sweeter and creamier smoothie that will put your taste buds in
heaven, but still add the desired amount of antioxidants and vitamins
to your diet. Try the Yoplait Triple Berry Smoothie; it comes in a
package that contains 2 servings of frozen strawberries, blueberries,
raspberries, and frozen yogurt pieces. All you have to do is add milk
and blend!
- Chocolate and Banana smoothie: This smoothie is extremely
simple, and it contains one of the best and healthiest ingredients in
the world- chocolate! Peel two bananas, and chop them into smaller
pieces, so they can be ready for the blender. Add ½ a cup of almond
milk- almond milk is much lower in calories than skim milk, and has a
richer and creamier taste, so it's always a preferable choice for me.
Next, add 1 tbsp of all natural unsweetened cocoa powder. You can get
this from the baking isle of your grocery store. Avoid using chocolate
syrup, because it's loaded in calories and artificial ingredients.
Lastly, add a few cubes of ice, and 2-4 packets of an all natural
sweetener, such as truvia, blend and enjoy!
- Green smoothie: If you love fruits already, I recommend
this incredible 100% raw smoothie, that will allow you to get a full
serving of leafy greens, while loving every bit of them! While this
smoothie contains spinach, the sweetness of the dates, bananas and
pears will be all you will taste! It's the perfect way to sneak in a
balanced breakfast. Add to your blender 2 peeled bananas, 1 bunch of
spinach, 1 pear without the core, 2-3 dried dates and a couple of ice
cubes. Blend until it's smooth and enjoy this any time, to get a real
burst of energy, that isn't followed by the usual sugar and caffeine
crash hours later.
